Solar water heating systems, also known as solar thermal systems, use solar energy to heat water for storage in a hot water cylinder or thermal store. Because the quantity of accessible solar energy changes throughout the year, a solar water heating system will not deliver all of the hot water needed. To make up for the shortfall, an immersion heater is typically used.

How does a solar water heater work?

The solar collector is made up of open vacuum tubes that capture solar energy from the sun's rays and convert it to heat energy.

When the cold water comes into touch with the energy generated, the water inside the vacuum tubes warms up.

The density of the water inside the tubes lowers as it heats up, and the hot water rises into the hot water storage tank.

The cold water in the tank will flow down into the tube due to its higher density.

The entire procedure is repeated, and the hot water will circulate constantly until the temperature of the water within the hot water tank reaches the temperature of the water inside the vacuum tube.

The thermosiphon cycle is the name given to this natural phenomenon.

The system is operational all year. In summer, it should provide around 95% of your hot water needs, with a decline to approximately 70% in winter.
